Jade itself is a gemstone that bears great cultural and religious value. It was prized by the Classic Mayan’s not only for its grandeur and beauty but also for its inflections on society, religion, and the afterlife. In the Orient, jade holds a more prominent status as a symbol of wealth and good health while also being an advocate for the vast majority of religious ceremonies. In ancient times it was considered the bridge between life and death, a sort of portal between heaven and earth. With this in mind, we chose to pay homage to this ideology without being too religious in context. This created a balanced mix of Mesoamerican design and subtle variations of Chinese culture.
